Aug 30th-Sept 1st 2013: Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC), UNAS and WWF organised a field trip for MUI representatives to Tesso Nilo and Rimbang Baling reserves in Sumatra, two WWF priority areas for tiger and elephant conservation. MUI members met with villagers living in and around the parks to understand their views on conservation, and with WWF staff to understand local conservation issues. One conclusion of the trip was that education and awareness of Islamic wisdom on the protection of biodiversity was desperately needed to complement current conservation activities.
